Project History & Schedule
2017 Corridor Study: Conducted by SDDOT, City of Box Elder, FHWA, and RCAMPO to identify transportation needs and establish the foundation for future improvements.
2021-2022 Studies: Included an Interchange Modification Justification Report (IMJR) and Environmental Screening Report (ESR), focusing on Exit 63 and the broader I-90 corridor.
April 2023 Public Meeting: Held at Box Elder City Hall to share the preliminary interchange design. Community feedback touched on access, detours, speeding, and project communication.
April 2024 VE Study: A Value Engineering Study explored dozens of design options, ultimately refining them into 6 formal proposals.
June 2025 Environmental Assessment Kickoff: The EA will examine the entire corridor from Exit 61 to Exit 67, assessing potential impacts and informing final design.
What’s Next
The project is currently in the environmental phase. The Environmental Assessment will:
Evaluate traffic and safety needs from Exit 61 to Exit 67
Study crossroad and bridge modifications
Ensure compliance with NEPA
Involve public meetings and landowner outreach
